Enlargements occur because of an uneven distribution in nerves running to other portions of the body

Cervical
Thoracic
Lumbar
Sacral
How many nerves are in the four regions of the spinal cord
Cervical - 8 nerves
Thoracic - 12 nerves
Lumbar - 5 nerves
Sacral - 5 nerves
What body portions do the 4 regions supply nerves to
Cervical - neck, shoulder, upper limb
Thoracic - chest and abdomen
Lumbar - lower limb
Sacral - pelvis
What is the filum terminale
Connects the coccyx and is made of pia mater

The point of attachment of the sacrum and filum terminale
Nerves T1 - Co1 exit where

Superior to names vertebrae
