Spine Mechanics for lifters Flashcards
(8 cards)
what is important in CrossFit
lumbar curvature
What to learn about spine
lumbar spinal anatomy and mechanics
How to express mechanical concepts into numbers during a lift
biomechnical model using computers for a lift like deadlift
Three forces on the spine
Compression, shear( twisting and torsion) , tension
Shear force
Force that acts parallel to surface, in spine create sliding of one vertebra with respect another
During deadlift
- Weigh tof upper body, weight of object , weight of arms all act onto rotate the lumbar spine at L4-5.
At fully flexed position
The muscle erector spinae / back extensorsmusculature is disabled, the load then moves to the ligaments which increases the shear force.
At a neutral spine posture
interspinous ligaments are disabled , reduces joint shear by allowing th muscle to activate,
