Sports Med Ch. 14 Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is the study of Kinesiology?
The study of movement or physical activity
What is the articular system?
A series of joints that allow movements of the human body
List the three classifications of joints, including their functions.
Synarthroses- immovable (skull)
Amphiarthroses- Slightly moveable (spine)
Diarthroses- Freely moveable (shoulder)
Give one example of where you would find a synovial joint.
Elbow (hinge)
How is the structure of the saddle join more complex as compared to the other synovial joints?
The saddle joint has both a concave and convex regions. While synovial joints only have one concave and convex.
How do circumduction and rotation differ?
Circumduction- is the ability of a limb to move in a circular path around an axis
Rotation- occurs when a bone turns on its axis towards or away from the midline of the body, in limb, or between the atlas and axis
What is the purpose of anatomical planes?
So that medical professions are able to clearly communicate what part/section of the body they are referring too.
How are the axil and sagittal planes different?
The axil plane cuts the body in half, from upper and lower. The sagittal plan cuts the body in half, left to right.
What is the difference between an open chain and closed chain?
Open chain movements or exercises where the end of the chain is free (Seated leg extensions)
Closed chain movements is when the end of the chain farthest from the body is fixed (push-ups/walking)
Give an example of a closed and open chain exercise
Closed Chain- Lunge, pull-up, deadlift
Open Chain - Bench press, waving your hand
