Describe the Importance of the cardiorespiratory system
It includes the functions of the heart, blood vessels, circulation, and gas exchange. Heart is responsible for pumping blood through the body and it carries out all of lifes functions.
What is the difference between blood pressure and pulse?
Blood Pressure- The force of the blood moving through your body
Pulse- Rhythmical beating of your heart
How does blood circulate through the body?
Through blood vessels
What is the difference between a vein and an artery?
Arteries carry blood from the heart to all the organs and cells in the body
Veins carry blood back to the heart
What is SCD? What is the immediate treatment for it?
Sudden Cardiac Disease immediate treatment is CPR and AED
Describe the personal protective equipment a certified athletic trainer should use.
Sterile gloves, protective glasses and a mask
What two types of disposable gloves are available?
Latex gloves or non-latex synthetic gloves.
What is the ANSl standard for protective eyewear?
must be reasonably comfortable, fit securely, capable of being disinfected, durable, and must be able to fit over or incorporate prescriptive eyewear.
What guidelines should be followed when treating wounds?
Irrigate the wound with clean, cool water, mild soap, be protected from contamination.
What are standard precautions?
Infection-control guidelines designed to protect workers from exposure to diseases spread by blood and certain body fluids.
What guidelines should be followed when applying bandages?
Dry sterile bandage should be applied, big enough to cover the whole wound, and not too tight. Replace if wet or soaked through. Remove anything that interferes with the bandage. Leave fingers and toes open so circulation can be checked.
Explain the difference between capillary, venous, and arterial bleeding.
Arterial- bright red blood coming out in distinct spurts or pulse.
Venous- Resulting in rupture of one ore more veins, steady blood flow.
Capillary- slow and typically oozes.
Why is shock a precursor to death?
Because with shock areas of the body are deprives of oxygen because blood flow or blood volume is too low to meet the bodies needs.
