Q

Treatment for mallet finger

A

Continuous extension splinting for at least six weeks followed by four weeks of nighttime splinting

  • this is basically the opposite of jersey finger. If it anytime during the first six weeks finger is flexed this can cause a disruption in the healing so it’s important to keep the finger extended

Q

Diagnosis of scaphoid fracture’s

A

X-ray on presentation of snuffbox tenderness. About 10% of these will be negative initially so x-rays need to be repeated in 10 to 14 days to check for fracture. If tenderness persists however x-rays continue to be negative can get an MRI for further evaluation. Most of these will require surgical fixation
