Q

Explain the importance of faith in Jesus’ healing miracles?

A

There are multiple stories and instances where Jesus would ask people if they had faith before healing them or eh would say that it is their faith that has healed them like in the bleeding woman. When Jesus healed the paralysed man he said that even though the man didn’t have any faith it was the faith of his friends that rewarded him and cured him.

In the boy with an evil spirit Jesus asked the man if he had faith and the man said yes but not enough and wanted help to have more and this showed Jesus that the man truly believe so he healed his son.

Q

Explain how the miracle stories prove Jesus was the Son of God

A

In the Calming of the storm miracle Jesus had the power to calm the wind and waves. This meant he had power over nature something that is deemed to be a power that only god possesses.

In the feeding of the 5000 Jesus was able to split 5 loaves and 2 fish amongst 5000 people. Not only did he split the food between them but was he also able to full feed them all and after wards when they collected all the scraps up they had 12 baskets full left over. This is simply an impossible feat showing us the Jesus is able to do anything as he is the Son of God. There must’ve also been more people than that because it says Jesus fed 5000 men that day meaning that there were more than 5000 because most of them would have came with their families.

These 2 miracles show us Jesus having power over nature and doing the impossible. These things would only be able to be performed by divine Godly beings showing us the Jesus is the Son of God

Q

Do the 5 titles of Jesus have meaning to Christian’s today?

A

Son of God - This title outlines Jesus’ divinity and who he truly is. It also reminds people of his power to save and heal.
Christ/Messiah - this isn’t too good because Messiah was linked to the Jewish belief that the Messiah would come save them. Christ is better because even people today use it as if it was his second name and whenever someone hears Christ they immediately think of Jesus. These words also meant anointed one in Greek and Hebrew which not many people know now a days
Son of David - David was regarded as the greatest king of Israel so they assumed the messiah to be his descendant. Not many people would understand the meaning of this now a days.
Son of Man - emphasises his humanity more than the other titles and it helps people relate to him a bit more.
Saviour- this title shows Jesus’ side of him saving people. Saviour means to ‘to save’ but this title only shows one side making it not he best.

Q

Explain what the miracles of Jesus teach us of his identity?

A

Miracles such as feeding of the 5000 and calming of the storm show Jesus to as the son of God with the ability to control natures and logic.

His healing miracles present Jesus to us as a kind saviour that helps others that are less fortunate. This is further supported by the fact that he mostly helped and healed the outcast of society.

Q

Did Jesus pay to much attention to the outcasts of society an not enough to ordinary people?

A

There are many stories of Jesus healing others and most of the people that he had healed were outcasts and there are only a handful of stories where Jesus healed regular people like Jairus’ daughter. In the stories he heals either outcasts or normal kids but there are almost no instances of him healing a normal adult. The closest we have to this is when he brought his friend Lazarus back to life. But there are also times when he did heal the ordinary and these where mostly children. While he mostly healed the outcasts he also healed some of the ordinary. This is evened out though by the fact that the outcasts needed it more than the ordinaries did.

Q

Explain what Jesus taught about the Kingdom of God?

A

Jesus taught people about the kingdom of god in many ways such as parables. The parable of the growing seed tells us that the kingdom of God will keep growing even without any care.

He teaches that the Kingdom of God will arrive no matter what people might try to do in order to stop or hinder its growth.

He also taught that in order to enter the Kingdom of God one must sacrifice all they have.

Q

Is story telling a good way to explain important Christian beliefs? Agree & Disagree.

A

The stories were told using common everyday situations such as agriculture since everyone would usually grow there own food. This meant that almost everyone could relate and understand the deeper meaning behind the stories. An example of such a story is ‘The Parable of the Sower’.

Stories are interesting and help people focus on what the person is saying while also making their brains and imaginations start making them more likely to understand the story as well. They could be understood by both adults and children which also shows the importance of children in Christianity.

Back then Jewish teachings were taught using stories and parables meaning that they were used to these sort of teachings so teaching them this was would be much more beneficial than teaching with a new method.

Other hand

The meaning usually isn’t clear and not everyone can be bothered or is just unable to see the deeper meaning behind the stories. Sometimes not even the disciples were able to tell the meaning sometimes and if they couldn’t then the likely hood that the general public could would be low.

People today most likely won’t find the stories relatable like for example most people don’t farm crops. The means that it is harder for them to find the meaning plus today people are too lazy to actually look for a deeper meaning.

Q

Why is the baptism story important in Mark’s Gospel? Why is it important for people then and now?

A

During the baptism the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus and a voice from heaven called Jesus his son showing us that Jesus is the Son of God and is Divine.

This story also marks the start of his ministry and his time as the messiah.

Christians today can learn from this story that baptising isn’t just to remove sin. It is also to dedicate your life to servitude for god. Jesus got baptised despite being free of sin.
