It is a service that is offered to everyone in the community.
What are some examples of public services
Police, fire department,healthcare, education, parks and public transportation
Healthcare
This can be a public or private service.
if it is private people pay for the cost of their treatment
What was education like in the 1850s
Most boys only went to school
Most schools in the United States were private schools so if families didn’t have enough money they didn’t go to school
What is public transportation
Transportation between cities and suburbs that includes buses and trains
Fire fighting
It is a public service.
Many places still use volunteers to fight fires but some towns and cities may hire trainee fire fighters as a public service
Parks
They offer opportunities to people. They add beauty and they touch of nature to our cities and towns. They give us space for all kinds of activities. They also bring people together and help create good feelings in a community
What do the police do for a community
Police keep us safe and protect us from any criminal
They make sure people are obeying the law
