Q

Why do SSC’s make sense in Primary molars

A
  • Inclined planes of cusps less steep; interrelationship of cusps with grooves with opposing teeth less precise
  • Broad Contacts
  • Squat, bulbous appearance/narrow occlusal table/buccal and lingual surfaces slope outward to form a prominent bulge just occlusal to the gingival margin
  • Definite cervical constriction at the CEJ
  • Gingival tissue is paler in color and has a preponderance of CT over blood vessels. Gingival margin is rounded vs knife edge as seen in adult dentition where it meets the tooth

16
Q

we want __________ on B/L
and ____________ on M/D
for SSC

A

undercuts
slight convergence towards occlucal

17
Q

what angle should the B/L should you bevel for SSC?

A

30-45 degrees

18
Q

how will most SSC seat?

A

L -> B

19
Q

how much will you trim for the SSC?

A

~1mm

20
Q

how should you trim the 1st primary molar for SSC?

A

stretched out S

21
Q

how should you trim the gingival contours of primary molars for SSC?

A

frown

22
Q

using the gingival plier you want to bend the _________ of the crown margins inward to restore anatomic margins and reduce the marginal circumference ensuring a good fit

A

gingival 3rd

23
Q

what should the buccal gingival contour of the second primar molar look like with SSC trimming?

A

smile

24
Q

what side of the crimping plier goes inside the crown

A

shorter side

25
Q

what kind of crimping plier do we use for the SSC?

A

118

26
Q

T/F after cementation you need to adjust the occlusion for the crown

A

false
do not attempt to adjust occlusal surface of SSC

27
Q

what should you use to finish/polish the SSC?

A

heatless stone
rubber wheel
tripoli and rouge

28
Q

what should you hear if the SSC is done well

A

a snap

29
Q

why will SSC’s fail?

A
  • Poor tooth preparation
  • Poor crown retention/adaptation
  • Occlusal surface wears through
  • Poor distal margin adaptation allows permanent molar to erupt ectopically under a second primary molar
30
Q

what is the chief gaol of a SSC?

A

replication of normal crown form/function
