A

Mental representations of oneself, relationship w others and of the world that develop when core needs ar not met and that strongly influence info processing, resulting in emotions and cognitions.

In order to cope with the emotional distress, individuals develop a coping strategy which helps reduce pain yet blocks access to primary feelings/needs, resulting in problems persisting into adult life

Schema mode properties

A

In PDs, often multiple schemas and coping strategies are active at the same time, switching quickly between them.

Dysfunctional child modes

A

Intense emotions like fear, loneliness, helplessness etc. Create vulnerable child modes, angry child, impulsive child etc.

Dysfunctional parent mode

A

Internalized negative beliefs about self that are developed during childhood by parents/teachers etc. The punative parent and demanding parent modes are part of this.

Include self punishment, high standards, devaluation etc.

Result from surrendering to EMSs: punitiveness and unrelenting standers

Dysfunctional coping mode

A

Avoidance or overcompensation type. They overshadow EMS and behaviour is dominated by coping strategy.

A

Happy child or healthy adult. Usually weak in the beginning, trained to grow strong during ST

Diagnostic imagery exercise

A

Beginning of treatment, Asked to imagine situation, Describing in detail what they experienced, felt etc. Than asked to let go of now and float back to childhood
