What is Proscenium End on?
A Frame that surrounds a stage space, separating the audience from the stage. This creates a fourth wall, which is useful in Naturalistic productions
What are 3 advantages of Proscenium arch?
1.) Blocking is relatively easy as the audience sit in one fixed position
2.:) Audience usually sit in raked seating, meaning large pieces of scenery + projections can be used
3.) Lighting isn’t an issue
What are 3 disadvantages of Proscenium End on?
What is in-the-round?
Where the audience sit around the stage on all sides
What are 3 disadvantages of In-the-round?
1.) Set pieces and props can’t be too high or they could block part of the audience’s sight
2.) It’s hard to use projections as there is no wall to project onto
3.) Actors cannot face in one direction for too long as part of the audience cannot look at their back for too long
What are 2 advantages of In-the-round?
1.) The audience can feel immersed as they feel inside the play
2.) Characters can exit and enter the stage as they wish, to create a shock or fear
What is Thrust?
A Thrust stage sticks out into the audience, who sit on 3 sides
What are 3 advantages of using Thrust
1.) There is a Backwall that can be used for scenery, backdrops and projections
2.) Blocking is easier
