Simvastatin

A

Mechanism of action: starts with acetyl coA, then you have have acetyl coA synthase which converts acetyl coA to HMG coA, then HMG coA gets converted into mevalonate (precursor of cholestoerol) by HMG coA reductase. By inhibiting HMG coA reductase, this pathway gets inhibited and so mevalonate can’t make cholesterol and triglycerides

Indications: high blood cholesterol (hyperlipidaemia)

Contraindications: acute liver disease, pregnant, breastfeeding

Side effects: CNS - headache and dizziness. GI - nausea and abdominal pain
