statistical testing : the sign test Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
what do we need in order to use a sign test
A
- test of difference
- repeated measures design
- nominal data
2
Q
what is the accepted level of probability
A
0.05
5%
3
Q
who do you need to find your critical value
A
- significance level
- number of participants in the investigation (N value)
- whether the hypothesis is directional or non directional
4
Q
how to carry out the sign test
A
- work out the difference between the conditions
- if positive put a + if negative put a - , ignore the ones that stay the same
- count your + and ur - signs
- the smaller number is the calculated value
- compare the calculated value to the critical value
5
Q
when is the sign test significant
A
- calculated value had to be equal to or lower than the critical value
- reject the null hypothesis
