Stats#1 Flashcards
(28 cards)
What is and individual
Are the people or objects included in the study
What is statistics
The study of how to collect organize and interpret numerical information from data
What is a variable
Is the characteristic of the individual to measure or observe
What is an implied variable
The sample of the population
What is a quantitative variable
Has a value expressed in numbers
What is qualitative variables
Expressed in letters
Placing on categories or groups
What is a population data
The variable is from every individual if interest
What is a sample data
The variable is from only some if the individuals of interest
What is nominal
The title, name, most basic data that can be placed into categories
What is ordinal
Data that can be put in order
Usually from worst to best.
Can be compared
What is interval
An be put in order and take differences between the values
No real zero value
Info that can be put on a scale
Cannot divide this info
What is ratio
Can order the data, take differences, and also find the ratio between data values.
Has a true zero
Can be divided
What is descriptive statistics
Involves methods of organizing, picturing and summarizing info from samples or populations
What is inferential statistics
Involves methods of using info from a sample to draw conclusions regarding the population
What is a simple random sample
Measurements from a population that is a subset of the population and every sample size has a equal chance at being selected and every individual has an equal chance at being selected.
What is a simulation
Simulating real world things but not experimented
What is stratified sampling
The entire pop is separated in strata and random samples are drawn from each group.
What is a systematic sampling
The population is sequentially numbered and chosen for every nth person
What is cluster sampling
The entire pop is divided into pre existing clusters that are often geographic and when chosen, every member of the sample is used.
What is convenience sampling
Data that is used from pop members that are readily available.
What is an experiment
A treatment is purposely imposed on the population
What is observation
Observing that doesn’t change the response or variable being measured
What is a census
Measurements of everyone or an entire sample
What is a sample
Measurements from a representative part of the population
