A

fluoroquinolones like levofloxacin or moxifloxacin, note 2nd or 3rd gen cephalosporin is the first line treatment

how do you treat inpatient CAP?

A

can use fluoroquinolone alone or a 3rd gen cephalosporin plus a macrolide (e.g. ceftriaxone plus azithromycin)

how do you treat hospital-acquired pneumonia?

A

tx is tailored toward gram-negative rods (any of the 3 are good)

  1. cephalosporins w/ pseudomonal coverage: ceftazidime or cefepime
  2. carbapenems: imipenem
  3. piperacillin/tazobactam
