What are the symptoms of Chlamydia?

A

In men: white, cloudy penile discharge, pain when passing urine and in testicles. In women: vaginal discharge, itchy/sore vulva, pain passing urine/abdominal pain, irregular menstrual bleeding and bleeding after sex. In both genders infection in the eyes can cause pain, swelling, irritation and discharge

A

In men: urethritis, dysuria, white/yellow/green discharge, inflamed foreskin, infection of testicles & epididymides. In women: infection of cervix causing thin or watery vaginal discharge, usually white, yellow or green, dysuria, infection in uterus and fallopian tubes

A

oral acyclovir as soon as prodromal symptoms start, topical 5% acyclovir cream applied 5 times a day for 5 days. May need prophylactic treatment

What are the symptoms of Syphilis?

A

First 90 days post infection: painless ulcer at site of infection (chancre), lymphadenopathy. 4-10 week post infection: non irritating rash on chest, back palms and soles of feet, hoarseness, lymph node enlargement, sometimes wart like growths around genitals. 3-15 years post infection: neurological disease, CVD, Gummas (soft, tumor like balls) and congenital syphilis

What is the treatment of Syphilis?

A

for early/incubating syphilis: IM Benzathine penicillin G or procaine penicillin G. Late/latent syphilis: IM Benzathine penicillin G weekly for 2 weeks or Procaine Penicillin G IM for 17 days. If penicillin allergy then Doxycycline 14 days for early and 28 days for late syphilis
