Where is the stomach located in the abdomen?
The stomach occupies the right and left upper quadrants of the abdomen.
What structures are anterior to the stomach?
The diaphragm, left lobe of the liver, and anterior abdominal wall are anterior to the stomach.
What structures are posterior to the stomach?
The omental bursa and pancreas are posterior to the stomach.
What is the bed of the stomach formed by?
The bed of the stomach is formed by the left dome of the diaphragm, spleen, left kidney and suprarenal gland, splenic artery, pancreas, and transverse mesocolon.
What are the main parts of the stomach?
The main parts include the cardiac opening, fundus, body, and pyloric part.
What is the function of the gastric rugae?
The gastric rugae are folds in the stomach lining that allow for expansion as the stomach fills.
What arteries supply the stomach?
The stomach is supplied by the left gastric artery, right gastric artery, left gastro-omental artery, right gastro-omental artery, short gastric arteries, and the pyloric artery.
What veins drain the stomach?
The stomach is drained by the inferior mesenteric vein and the portal vein.
What nerves innervate the stomach?
The stomach receives sympathetic innervation from the thoracic splanchnic nerves and parasympathetic innervation from the anterior and posterior vagal trunks.
