Structure Of Skeletal Muscles Flashcards
(3 cards)
1
Q
Describe the structure of muscle fibres.
A
- giant muscle cells
- cylindrical shape
- surrounded by a membrane called a sarcolemma
- contains sarcoplasmic reticulum which is a store of calcium ions
- sarcoplasm (cytoplasm) contains many nuclei and mitochondria
- contain many myofibrils
2
Q
Describe the structure of myofibrils.
A
- made up of many sarcomeres
- each sarcomere is made up of many proteins (actin and myosin)
3
Q
What is the difference between actin and myosin?
A
Actin = thin filament
Myosin = thick filament
