Study Guide Definitions Flashcards
(18 cards)
Includes description, point of contact and dates of action
Action Item
The number which represents the average cost of the project by hour, day, or week.
Burn Rate
A plan that identifies key assumptions, beyond the project manager’s control, and their probability of occurrence. The plan identifies alternative strategies for achieving the project success. It is considered part of risk management.
Contingency Plan
A project element that is considered a unit for the purpose of configuration management. This includes such items as software modules, version of software system, the project design document, and the project plans.
Control Item
A process that provides a mechanism to document, research and resolved issues that arise during t project planning and execution.
Issue Management
A valuable closure mechanism for team members regardless of the project’s success. Includes
- Project Team
- Stakeholder representation – including external project oversight
- Executive Management
- Maintenance and Operation Staff
Lessons Learned
A significant event in the project (key item or key event).
Milestone
The act of defining strategies in terms of scope, budget, schedule, or quality to reduce uncertainty on the project.
Mitigation
PERT
Program Evaluation and Review Technique. Communicates project critical path. Can also be used to estimate the range of potential costs and timeframes of any given project.
PIER
Post Implementation Evaluation Report. A report generated during close-out activities. Documents lessons learned
Developed during the concept phase and finalized in the planning phase. Includes
- Business problem
- Statement of work
- Objectives
- Success factors
- Project dependencies
- constraints
Project Charter
A graphical representation of predicted tasks, milestones, dependencies, resource requirements, task duration, and deadlines.
Project Schedule
During start-up the project manager assesses the skills of the available people for the project.
Project Staffing
Scope, definition, and objectives. Defines the project charter. High level approach
First task in the definition phase.
Project Statement
Planned and systematic process for evaluating the satisfaction of the project.
Quality Plan
Systematically determining the impact of identified risks on the project.
Risk Analysis
Implementing an alternative series of task to accomplish a specific objective. Often done to get a project back on schedule. Generally raises the overall cost of the project. Only for activities on the critical path.
Crashing
Activities or phases normally done in sequence are performed in parallel for at least a portion of the project. Risk is increased and rework may result. Only works if activities can be overlapped to shorten the project duration.
