What was the French and Indian War? How did it affect the American Revolution?
French and British fought, British needed to tax the colonists to repay war debt, start all these taxes, Americans revolt!
Why was African slavery and the concept of race invented?
Rich white guys wanted to prevent multi-racial rebellions of poor against rich, like how Bacon’s Rebellion happened earlier. So, they divided the races rather than the classes, creating a different hierarchy.
What was the Compromise of 1850? What did it do?
U.S. got land from Mexico

Why did France sell the United States the Louisiana Purchase?
It needed money, lost their military base in Haiti, and there was French-British war looming. Needed money, basically.
What did the Missouri Compromise do?
Replaced the Northwest Ordinance Act
Banned slavery north of 36’30
Why was the Missouri Compromise created?
Missouri was applying for slave statehood, but much of it was north of the Ohio RIver, so they needed to change the line to 36’30.
Needed to divide the Louisiana Purchase land into slave and free.
Why did the Mexican-American war happen?
Texas wanted to be free, and the US annexed TX when MX still considered TX theirs.
What is the difference between the Mexican-American War and Texan Independence?
Texan Independence came first
Texas declared independence from Mexico
