A

An individual’s perception of his or her financial/material situation. Poverty is defined on the basis of individual feeling e.g those who say that they feel poor represent subjective poverty.

What is the Offical Poverty Line?

A

People at or below this level of income are thought to be excluded from a minimum acceptable way of life in the society they live in - people living on or below 60% of median income.

It was abolished in 2015 by Conservative Government.
It was used in Britain and by the EU.

This is for a minimum acceptable standard of living.
This measure was devised by sociologists, experts and the general public to reach a consensus.

What is the Social Metric Commision?

A

It is a new poverty measure based on contributions from the Conservative Party and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF). This measures the income, but also considers assets, savings, debt, measurements, childcare costs and disability.
