Rules of Subordinated Adverbial Clauses

A

Subjunctive is used when the subordinate clause modifies an indefinite, vague or non existent antecedent. e.g

If verb or article in main clause denotes “having” then subordinate clause uses INDICATIVE.

When verb in main clause denotes” needing or searching for “ uses SUBJUNCTIVE. Unless the main clause uses the definitive article “the” which implies that the sought article exists.

But if main clause asserts that the antecedent doesn’t exist then subjunctive is used.
