Cluster of symptoms that are valid and reliably observed and have a clear time course that includes onset clearly following cessation of the drug and a return to baseline levels
what is craving?
strong desire for the substance
what is the specifier for opioid and tobacco use disorders?
On maintenance therapy: Individual is taking a prescribed agonist medication such as methodone or buprenorphine or nicotine replacement medication and none of the criteria for opioids or tobacco use disorder have been met for that class of medication

- Episodic: Meets diagnostic criteria at more than one time point, with symptoms subsiding between periods of gambling disorder for at least several months
- Persistent: Continuous symptoms meeting diagnostic criteria for multiple years
