How can SIDS be prevented?

• Sleep Positioning/Wrapping
  
  • Supine sleep position (back for first 6 months) – “Back to Sleep” Campaign
    
    • Increased chance of flattened occiput
    • Ameliorate with supervised “tummy time” - prone time when awake
  • Avoid overheating baby → no heavy wrapping or high room temperature
  • “Feet to foot” position in cot
• Support – Lullaby Trust
• General advice:
  
  • Share a room with your baby for first 6m (cot in room)
  • Never sleep on a sofa or armchair with baby
  • Do not co-sleep
  • Breastfeed baby if possible
  • Smoke free – during pregnancy and after birth
