SUMMATIVE 1: MODULE 2 Flashcards
(20 cards)
What type of light direction would you use to emphasize a subject’s textures flat and three-
dimensionality?
Bottom Lighting
What effect can the red, yellow, and orange colors create?
Warm
You can only use natural light to take photos. (T/F)
False, you can use studio lighting & accessories
A reflector is a tool that create lights. (T/F)
F, It REFLECTS lights.
A type light that bounces off the surface where the light will reflect at the same angle as it hit the surface.
Reflected Lights
The color of light is measured by temperature in ____ (_)
Kelvin (°K)
There are 2 primary factors to consider for light: _________ AND _________.
Direction & Colour
_____ lighting is easy to photograph, but images are generally flat.
Front Lighting
______ lighting, such as from the sun overhead, also makes the image flat, and shadows are short and
dark.
Top lighting
_____ lighting will emphasize texture and contours, and create long shadows.
Side lighting
Typical white balance settings of a camera include (6)
TUNGSTEN
FLORESCENT
SHADE
SUNNY CLOUDY
FLASH
AUTO AND MANUAL
_____ light typically creates shadows with high contrast and hard edges. Sunlight on a clear day is _____
light. Light from an on-camera flash can also be ______
Direct Light
________ light creates shadows with lower contrast and softer edges than direct light. Depending upon the
amount of ________, it is possible that the shadows will be so light that you can barely see them.
Diffused Lights; Diffusion
Clouds are a great example of how sunlight can be _______.
Diffused
Sunlight bouncing off of clouds can create ________.
Reflected Light
______ are several times more powerful as
compared to even the largest of on-camera units, and they
built specifically to have light shapers to them.
Studio Strobes
__________
are things like umbrellas, reflectors, and softboxes that alter
the light quality of a studio strobe.
Light Shapers
Creates a soft pleasing light when attached to studio
strobes
Soft boxes
Important notes about reflectors (2)
- Light from a reflectors isn’t any brighter than what is already there, so you can’t use them to light up a
night portrait unless you are also using a flash or other light source as well. - The quality of the light will match the quality of the light that’s in the scene. For example, if you’re
shooting at sunset, the light that bounces off the reflector will have that same orange hue.
Different Colored Reflectors & their uses (3)
A. White reflector simply bounces the light, and the light is nice and
soft.
B. Silver reflector doesn’t change the color of the light much, but it is
a bit brighter than light reflected off a white one.
C. Gold reflectors are designed to change the color of the light by
warming it up a bit with an orange tone.
