What is a ritual?
A ritual is a sequence of activities involving actions, words and objects, performed in a specific place according to a set sequence.
What is a religious ritual?
A religious ritual is a ceremony consisting of a series of actions performed according to a set order that have a religious and symbolic value.
What are symbols?
A symbol can be a picture, an image, an object, a gesture or an action that represents something and it can mean different things to different people.
Define and give examples of a rite of passage?
Rites of passage are important moments in people’s lives that are religious in a way. E.g: birth, marriage and death
What are some reasons why people pray?
- People pray to feel close to god. 2.to say they are sorry. 3. To ask for something. 4.To help someone.
What are the different types of prayer?
Vocal, silent, individual, communal, formal and informal.
What are some challenges when praying?
- Not having enough time. 2. Being embarrassed. 3.not knowing what to say. 4. Not having enough faith.
What are the symbols of baptism?
Holy water, paschal candle, catechumen oil, oil of chrism and the white garment
What does the holy water represent?
The belief that the water will wash away original sin.
What does the paschal candle represent?
The light of the world.
What does the catechumens oil represent?
It is a symbol of strength.
What does the oil of chrism represent?
It represents that they have now been chosen to serve god
What does the white garment represent?
The garmet symbolise being clothed in Jesus and the colour white represents the purity and innocence as the child begins a new life as a follower of Jesus.

Priest welcomes the parents and godparents
