✅ Common Theme: They’re all about whether someone has the power or ability to do something — either now, in the past, or in a difficult situation.
CAN ( (present ability / permission)
* I can speak Japanese.

COULD (past ability / polite request / hypothetical)

BE ABLE TO ((used in all tenses))

When I was a child, I could climb trees easily. Now, I can still climb, but it’s harder. Next year, I hope I’ll be able to hike Mount Fuji. It’s a tough goal, but I believe I can do it. Last summer, I managed to finish a 20 km hike despite the hot weather, so I know I have the determination.

Grammar Reference
‘Used to’ and ‘would’
-Used to (Actions or situations in the past that no longer happen or exist Past habits & past states))
- Would (Repeated actions or habits in the past Past habits only (NOT states)))
Used to = can describe both habits and states.
Would = can describe only past habits.
When I was younger, I used to wake up early and go for a run every morning. My father would prepare breakfast while I got ready. We would eat together and talk about our plans for the day. Life was simpler back then. I used to feel happy and carefree. Now, things have changed. I wake up late, eat alone, and barely have time to relax. I miss the days when we would spend quality time as a family.
