A
Origin: space behind post. gluteal line 
Insertion: 70% - IT tract; 30% gluteal tuberosity 
Innervation: Inferior gluteal n. L5, S1, S2
Function: 
 - stand from sitting
 - stairs + walking 
 - rotate femur externally + abduct 
 - extend + lock knee via IT tract

Origin: between anterior and posterior gluteal lines
Insertion: lateral + elongate facet of greater trochanter
Innervation: Superior gluteal n. L4, L5, S1
Function: main abductor thigh @ hip joint + med rotate thigh
