Emergency supply made at the request of a prescriber

A

Prescriber = doctor, dentist, SP, NP, IP

  • prescriber must supply prescription within 72 hours
  • supplied with accordance w/ directions of the prescriber
  • Prescription only register made on the day
  • not a CD schedule 1, 2, 3 except phenobarbital for epilepsy

Supply made at the request of EEA / Swiss prescriber

A

Cannot supply any Sch. 1, 2, 3 CDs
POM must have marketing authorisation
Pharmacist is clear regarding intended supply

Supply made at the request of a patient

A

Pharmacist should interview patient
- immediate need
- POM previously prescribed by doctor, dentist etc
- dose
- not suitable to obtain prescription undue delay
POM is not a CD in schedules 2 or 3 - except phenobarbital for epilepsy

Maxi. 5 days  supply of CDs 
Max. 30 days supply of other POMs
Use Professional Judgement
make entry in POR register
Label dispensed with ‘emergency supply’
