๐ T Cell Subsets and Function Flashcards
(7 cards)
What is the function of CD8+ cytotoxic T cells?
directly kill infected/tumour cells
How do cytotoxic T cells kill infected cells?
- perforin-granzyme pathway
pores โ granzyme entry โ induce pop - Fas-FasL pathway
expresses FasL โ binds Fas (CD95) recep on target cell โtrigger death recepor path โ apoptosis
What are the key effector molecules used by cytotoxic T cells?
- perforin
- granzyme
- Cks (IFN-g โ inc MHC expression, MP activ // TNF-a โ pro-inflammatory, induce apoptosis)
- Fas ligand (FasL)
What is the role of CD4+ helper T cells in coordinating immune responses?
โdirectorsโ of the IR thru direct binding + ck prod
- stim B cells โ Ab prod
- memory CD4+ cells โ LT immunity
- activates CD8+ (binds APCs โ upregs B7 expression โ enhances co-stim signal #2)
How do Th cells help B cell responses?
Th cells secrete ck + display costim mols โ stim B cells
โ proliferation
โ differentiate โ secrete Ab
โ class switch
How do regulatory T cells suppress immune responses?
- inhibitory Ck
- bind APC B7 receptors โ prevent co-stim โ prev T cell activ
- other inhibitory mols e.g. CAMP โ suppress T cell signalling paths
- induce T cell apop (perforin + granzyme)
What are memory T cells and what is their role in immunity?
class of T cells that persist in body โ provide LT immuniy
mount stronger + faster + longer IR upon rexposure, even when 2nd viral load = smaller
