T-cells and cellular immunity Flashcards
(7 cards)
What initiates the T-cell response
Macrophages phagocytose pathogens and present antigens with HLA on their surface to T-cells
What happens after a t cell is activated
It enlarges and divides to form clones of different t-cells
What do killer (cytotoxic ) t cells do
Destroy infected cells, secrete lymphokines and interferons to stimulate immune activity
What do memory T cells do
Remain in lymphoid tissue and trigger fast response upon re-exposure to the antigen
What is the role of amplifier T-cells
Stimulate helper, suppressor T cells and B cells
What do helper T cells secrete
Interleukin-2, which stimulates killer T cell multiplication and B cell activity
What do delayed hyper sensitivity T cells do
Secrete lymphokines to promote allergic responses to macrophage activity
