T-tests and Chi-square tests Flashcards

1
Q

When do we use t-tests?

A

We can use a t-test when the independent variable is nominal and the dependent variable is interval-ratio. We use it to focus on the difference between means

Q

What is the form of a t-test?

A

The form is a difference between means. The interpretation (the way we would write this) is 3 sentences. One for the first mean, one for the second mean, and one for the difference between two means

Q

What would the graph of a t-test look like?

A
  1. Vertical: Dependent variable, measured by the mins and maxes of that metric
  2. Horizontal: The labels for the 2 groups being analyzed
    Don’t forget population!

Q

What is Cross-tabs analysis based on?

A

Cross-tabs Analysis is based on bivariate frequency distributions, which gives us the frequency of occurrence for each value of a dependent variable for each particular value of an independent variable, easiest expressed in percentages

Q

What are the particulars of cross-tabs?

A
  1. The categories must be nominal
  2. The research hypothesis is non-directional
  3. For form and graphs, pick a row and focus on it
  4. Difference between percentages
