Know the differences between the North and South’s economic situations after the war.
The North’s economic struggles did not last long. Soon, the need for people fulfilling jobs came back. But the South’s money started having no value and the South suffered a lot more damage to their economic system.
Know the difference between the North and South’s physical environment during the war.
Since many battles were fought on Southern soil, the South suffered from much more damage to buildings, farms, and homes. The North barely suffered any loss to buildings or farms.
What was the biggest fear of white’s regarding the political situation of the South after the war?
They thought that African Americans would gain political power.

Lincoln’s plan offered amnesty towards Confederates who swore loyalty to the Union except for Confederate leaders. Furthermore, if 10% of 1860 southern voters swore an oath of loyalty to the Union, they would be admitted back to the US.
Write out two characteristics unique to the Wade-Davis Bill’s plan for reconstruction.
This bill was going to be very harsh to the ex-Confederates and a state needed to have 50% of voters in 1860 to be admitted back into the Union. Also, it denied the right to vote or to hold office to anyone who had volunteered to the Confederacy.
Write out two characteristics unique to President Johnson’s plan for reconstruction.
President Johnson was extremely linet when it came to forgiving ex-Confederates and gave them slack. He also did not offer much help to the free African Americans.
Write out two characteristics that are shared between all three plans.
All wanted to bring the Union back together. All needed some people in the Southern States to be ready to pledge loyalty to the Union.
What three things did the Freedmen’s Bureau do for former slaves?
Give food and clothing, find jobs, and set up schools for Freedmen.

John Wilkes Booth and his profession was an actor.

They worked on plantations.
What did the 13th amendment allow congress to do from that time forward?
Gave Congress the power to intervene, and later to pass additional legislation protecting civil rights.
What act of president Andrew Johnson enraged conservative Republicans in congress?
The Southern States meant the standards for Johnson’s conditions so Johnson approved their new state governments in late 1865 while Congress was in recess. Voters in the South then elected Southern representatives and most were leaders of the Confederacy such as the Vice President Alexander Stephens.
What was the response of Congressional Republicans to president Johnson’s behind their back move during the recess of 1865?
They were outraged and refused Southern representatives to serve.
