Q
Aquinas quote for qua regularity arg
A
“We see things which lack knowledge … act for an end … hence it is plain that they achieve this not fortuitously but designedly
2
Q
What way is aq ta arg
A
5th way
3
Q
What are the 5 evidences of design
A
- Has specific material which enable it to fulfil its purpose
- Has several complex parts
- Works towards a specific purpose
- Exhibits reg motion which enables it to fulfil its purpose
- Has indispensable parts without which couldn’t fulfil purpose
4
Q
Strengths of ta
A
- uses inductive reasoning - based on evidence we can all see + experience for ourselves
- not necessarily incompatible with evolution + bb (g is guiding hand behind scientific laws of universe)
- Paul Davies - Goldilocks enigma - if bb was diff in 1 part by 10^60 then life wouldn’t have developed (can’t have happened by chance - designed)
- F.R Tennant - aesthetic principle - evolution doesn’t explain love and appreciation for art + music (can’t have happened by natural selection, put their by g)

Q
Weaknesses of ta
A
- inductive leap - jumps from designer to god without any evidence
- Hume: 1. Analogies aren’t similar, ridiculous to compare world to watch more complex 2. Limits god and simplifies him, compares to human designer nothing like us 3. Apparent design, fallacy in assuming the universe is designed just because it seems so, appearance of design where none exists
- Darwin - evolution explains design and complexity (eye) accounts for evil in world, ta doesn’t
