TALPA Flashcards
(19 cards)
What does TALPA stand for?
Takeoff And Landing Performance Assessment
What are FICON NOTAMS?
Field Condition NOTAMS
What are RwyCC and what do they describe?
RwyCC are Runway Condition Codes that correspond with runway conditon descriptions to describe runway thirds.
How much air distance is factored into landing distance calculaitons?
1500ft
also, credit for reverse thrust, and a 15% safety margin
When a FICON NOTAM includes RwyCC, what does it indicate?
it is an indicator that more than 25% of the overall runway coverage or cleared width is contaminated and performance impacts are likely. When less than 25% contaminated, RwyCCs will not be generated.
Define a contaminated runway
A contaminated runway is defined as a runway where more than 25% of the runway length, within the width being used , is covered by standing water or slush more than 1/8” or 3mm deep or has an accumulation of snow or ice.
A runway is also considered contaminated with less than 25% coverage if the contaminant is located prior to the midpoint of the runway.
How many levels of contamination are there?
3 levels exist for each of:
Water
Slush
Wet Snow
Dry Snow/Frost
What is the range of RCC (Runway Condition Codes)?
0-6
What is RCC 6?
Bare and Dry
What is RCC 0?
Reported braking NIL or Ice melting/wet ice, water on top of compacted snow, or Dry snow or wet snow over ice.
In active conditions, using the Runway Condition and Braking Action Report Equivalency Table what value of the intermediate level (ie Good to Medium) shall be used for ACARS or TLR landing distance calculation?
The more restrictive value of the intermediate level shall be used. EG GOOD to MEDIUM shall = MEDIUM
In Non Active conditions, if there has been an aircraft braking action report (BAR) after the RSC was taken which one may be used to calculate the required landing distance?
If the conditions are non active, the BAR may, at the captains descretion, be used to calculate the required landing distance.
When using FICON which of the RwyCC is used?
When using FICON use the most restrictive RwyCC
When using Rwy Surface Condition (RSC) and/or Braking Action Reports What maximum crosswind limits apply for
Good Braking?
Good Braking - maximum crosswind 33 kts
When using Rwy Surface Condition (RSC) and/or Braking Action Reports What maximum crosswind limits apply for
Good - Medium braking?
Good - Medium braking -maximum crosswind 25 kts
When using Rwy Surface Condition (RSC) and/or Braking Action Reports What maximum crosswind limits apply for
MEDIUM Braking?
MEDIUM Braking -maximum crosswind 20 kts
When using Rwy Surface Condition (RSC) and/or Braking Action Reports What maximum crosswind limits apply for
MEDIUM - POOR braking?
MEDIUM - POOR braking -maximum crosswind 15 kts
When using Rwy Surface Condition (RSC) and/or Braking Action Reports What maximum crosswind limits apply for
POOR Braking?
POOR Braking -maximum crosswind 10 kts
