When to add second line treatment
drug resistance, contraindications, intolerance
What to monitor
liver function tests, hep B/C
Rifampin
TB and meningococcal carriers
don’t use if taking saquinavir or other -virs–> hepatocellular toxicity, loss of efficacy/viral resistance
liver dysfunction with fatalities

vision changes in young children and unconscious patients
optic neuritis
Streptomycin
mod-severe inf of susceptible strains
limited therapy for non-TB infections
hypersensitivity to aminoglycosides
vestibular ototoxicity
neurotoxic reactions with impaired renal function or azotemia
