Q

Muhammad

A

The religion of Islam grew from him and his preaching. Muhammad was born into a merchant family in Makkah during 570 C.E, and was orphaned around the ages of 5 or 6. When he was a teenager, he worked as a caravan leader and soon became a merchant. But despite his success, he was troubled by the things he saw around him, including the greed of Makkah’s wealthy citizens, who were quite greedy. He did not respect their dishonesty and neglect towards the poor, and their disregard for family. Seeking guidance, he spent time outside of the city, praying in a cave. Muslim tradition says that in 610 C.E, he received a vision in which a voice called him to preach to Islam, which means to surrender to the will of Allah. He returned to Makkah and began to preach, telling people that there was only Allah to warship, the only true god, which he then told people to destroy the statues of the fake gods.
