Q

what is CAD

A

computer aided design is used by businesses/ graphic designers to help model a product without the need to actually produce it, able to identify and issues with design, can create infiniate design ideas and modify initial design if neccisary

Q

adv/ dis advan CAD

A

advantages-
reduces time between design idea and production- more competitive
- avoids large costs of producing and realising faulty, can identitify faults in first stages, reducing risk of large losses
- increases efficiency and allows for better innvovation and higher quality
-avoid large costs of producing different variations before find perfect design

Q

adv/ disadv CAM

A

– quicker
0- reduce change of humand mistake
- higher productivity

High Setup Costs: CAM systems, including CNC machines and software, are expensive to purchase and install.
Training Requirements: Skilled operators and programmers are needed to run CAM systems effectively, which can involve significant training time and cost.
Job Losses: CAM can automate many manufacturing processes, potentially leading to redundancies in manual and low-skilled roles.
Maintenance Costs: CAM equipment requires regular maintenance and repairs, which can be costly and time-consuming.

Q

Adv/dis robotics

A
  • runs 24/7
  • dont have to pay labour costs
  • no need to train
-no considerations of health and saftey or employee welfare
  • more effiecient in some cases espacially repetitive roles
  • high initial costs
may be expensive to fix if breaks
  • may havr to train workers to operate

Q

what is IT

A

used in all areas of businesses

e.g. in operations through EPOS and just in time systems

online prescence, allowing other distrubution channels

  • allowing for online marketing such as gathering customer data base through apps e.g.g tescos and then marketing products to customers which suit their data base
  • communication through call centeres
  • can access geographical markets

Q

adv/ dis IT

A

reduction in costs
increased customer convienicne increasing sales

access larger customer base

Cyber security threats, for example M&S, training to keep up-to-date with new systems, higher initial costs, if has technical issues can reduce productivity and high costs in money and reputation

Q

overall AD/DIS tech

A

technical economies of scale - lower costs

Businesses that do not use technology such as those that produce hand-made products may not find
technology important to have in their operations.

Q

eval

A

The importance and impact of using technology in operations can depend upon the nature of the
technology invested and the type of business that undertakes the investment.

  • If the technology is used properly then businesses can benefit greatly in terms of producing products
more cheaply and responding to the requirements of customers. But technology can be expensive to
    implement, especially in larger organisations.
  • The positive impacts of technology may not be experienced immediately. Businesses may need to
dedicate some time to gain the full benefits of the different technology they have invested in using.
  • Much of the negative impacts with technology in operations tend to focus on the initial and ongoing
expense. Businesses need to be in a position to be able to afford the technology they want to
    implement.
  • Investment in technology does not guarantee success. There are many other factors that contribute
to success that businesses may not be able to control, such as competitors’ use of technology may
be much better or because of changing economic conditions.
  • Employees need to be properly trained to use technology if they are going to be able to use it
properly and have a positive attitude towards its use
