Caused by water movement (EG: Floods, Avalanches)
DEFINITION : Disaster
When a hazard seriously effects humans
DEFINITION : Risk
The likelyhood humanhs will be siginificantly affected
DEFINITION : Vulnurability
How susceptible a population is
What are the three P’s for disasters?
Prediction
Protection
Preparation
What are the DEFINITIONS of the 3 P’s for disasters?
Prediction - Monitoring Seismometers to try to predict when a disaster may happen
Protection - Constructing safe buildings
Preparation - Practicing for disasters and educating a population on the dangers and signs.
What are the reasons why someone may be more susceptible?
Wealth - Poverty can cause people to not be able to afford to leave and cant bounce back after the disaster
Education - People nay have little understanding of hazards and the signs
Demographics - Age can mean that people are move vulnerable to quick onset disasters
Location - Isolated places will struggle to receive adequate aid
What is the Park Model?
The model where it demonstrates life when usual and level of development as a disaster hits and how a country may struggle to bounce back or may excel.
What are the stages of the Park Model?
Pre Disaster - Before the incident
Disruption - During the hazard - the destruction
Relief - Rescue efforts and aid to rescue people
Rehab - Resolving long term problems such as temp housing and water systems
Reconstruction - Rebuilding Infrastructure
