2
Q

What happens at a constructive Plate Boundary?

A

Two plates move apart as the two plates move apart magma rises up fill the gap this causes volcanoes however since the magma can escape easily at the surface of the volcano does not erupt with much force.

Q

What happens at a destructive plate boundary

A

A destructive plate Boundry is found where a continental plates meet and oceanic plate at a destructive plate Boundry they are moving together the denser oceanic plate sinks below the lighter continental crust. The Continental crust then becomes crumbled into fold mountains.

Q

How are conservative plate boundarys formed

A

Two plates slide past each other in the same or opposite direction, the two plates meet at a Boundry and pressure builds up until the two plates Jerk passed each other this causes an earthquake

Q

What is the Geosyncline

A

Water in the middle of the plates which gets filled with sediments compressed into rock. The sediment is folded into fold mountains.

8
Q

What is the process that creates fold mountain.

Q

What do farmers use the Alps for

A

Milk from the cows is used to make cheese chocolate and butter

Farm cattle and sheep

Animals are grazed in most high areas as the soil isn’t great for growing crops there

Q

How have people adapted to living in the Alps

A

Roads have been built over passes such as the Brenner pass between Austria and Italy. This is for faster transport.

Trees and man-made defences are used to protect against avalanches and rockslides

Q

What was secondary impacts of the volcano

A

8000 of the islands 12 000 inhabitants have left since the eruption began in 1995.

Volcanic ash from the eruption has improved soil fertility.

16
Q

Long term responses of the volcano

A

The uk provided £41 million to develop the north of the island, new docks houses and an airport have been built in the north.

The south of the island is off limits while the volcano is still active.

17
Q

What was the case study for the earthquake in a poor country

A

Kashmir Pakistan on 8th October 2005

18
Q

When was the soufriere hills volcano

A

June 25th 1997 but small eruptions started in 1995.

19
Q

What were primary effects for the Kashmir earthquake

A

80 000 killed instantly.

Villages and building were destroyed

20
Q

What were secondary effects of the Kashmir earthquake?

A

3 million people were made homeless.

Diarrhoea and other diseases spread due to little clean water.

21
Q

What were immediate responses from the Kashmir earthquake

A

Help didn’t reach many areas for days and weeks.

People had to be rescued by hand without any emergency equipment.

22
Q

What were long term responses for the Kashmir earthquake?

A

40 000 people had to be relocated to a new town from the destroyed town balakot

New health care centres have been set up in the area.

23
Q

Where can tourists visit in the alps for activities

A

St moritz, charmonix, France
