Q

What are WHIP antennas and provide pro’s and con’s.

A

WHIP antennas: Most commonly used, Omni directional, usually stainless stel with Teflon coating, flexible
Pro’s: uniform signal over greater distance
Con’s: may be subject to breaking due to weak metal or corrosion

Q

What are LOOP antennas and provide pro’s and con’s.

A

LOOP antennas: used with collars, tuned to radiate maximum signal at the exact neck circumference for which they are constructed.
Pro’s: Useful for species who would chew or pull whip antenna
Con’s: signal has limited distance which is not as far as whip antenna

Q

What are PTT’s and how do they work?

A
  • Platform Transmitter Terminals
  • emit much more complex and larger transmission which is repeated at longer intervals and received by ARGOS satellites.
  • can transmit data such as temperature, activity count, dive count, length of last time, time spent under water

Q

How does GPS transmitters work?

What data do they collect?

A
  • Global Positioning System transmitters
  • Locates itself by receiving triangulating signals from at least 3 to 26 possible satellites and transmits its position to the user.
