How would you check that your brakes are working?
Brakes shouldn’t feel spongey, and when you set off and test your brakes the car shouldn’t pull to one side.
How would you find the information for the recommended tyre pressures in the car and how that should be tested?
It will be in the manual and check the tyres with a tyre pressure gauge.
How would you check the head rest is adjusted to provide the best protection?
Middle of my headrest needs to be in line with my ears and eyes.
How would you check your tyres have sufficient tread and general conditions are safe for the road?
Tyre should have 1.6mm of tread, and there should be no cuts or bulges in the side of the tyre.
How would you check your headlights and taillights are working?
Turn on dipped headlights and then get out of the vehicle and check the lights at the front and back of the car.
How would you tell if there is an issue with your anti-lock braking system?
It would come up on your dashboard - symbol would be amber.
How would check your indicator lights are working?
Turn your hazard warning lights on and check each bulb.
How would you check that your brake lights are working?
Press the brakes and ask someone to check the lights, or you can check in reflections if you have any.
How would you check that your power steering is working before starting a journey?
When the engine is off your steering will be difficult to move but it should become light when engine is turned on, if not it isn’t working.
How do you switch on your rear fog lights, and how would you use them?
You would use them when you can’t see more than 100 metres down the road. You would turn on the dipped headlights and then turn on the fog lights which would be by twisting the centre of the left stick.
How would you switch your headlights from dipped to main beam, and how would you know it is on?
Turn on dipped headlights then push the left indicator stick forward to turn them on. A blue symbol would show on the dashboard to signify they are on.
How would you check that your engine has sufficient coolant?
[To open the bonnet there should be a lever under the steering wheel, pull that and then open the bonnet safely, securing it before demonstrating the question].
(Usually a temperature warning symbol/green cap) Check the levels are between the minimum and maximum markings.
How would you check that you have a safe level of hydraulic brake fluid?

Identify brake reservoir (brake symbol on top in yellow(sticker)/grey cap). Levels should be between the minimum and maximum markings.
How would you check that the engine has sufficient oil?

Identify dipstick (symbol of oil can/yellow stick top). Take out the dipstick and wipe it off, put it back in and bring it out, checking that the oil comes out between the minimum and maximum markings.
