How to join materials using a screw?

A
  1. Mark position of the screw on top of wood.
  2. Drill hole (Same size as screw).
  3. If using a countersink screw, create a sunken hole for the screw head.
  4. Put another piece of wood on top and drill a smaller hole.
  5. Place screw on the first hole and drill carefully and straight with a screwdriver.

Name a couple examples of screws.

A

Countersunk (flush with wood), Round Head (decorative) , Chipboard (long thread), Self-Tapping (cut metal holes)

How to join materials with Nails?

A
  1. Make an indent into the material to make sure the nail will not move.
  2. Use a hammer, bash the head into the wood.

What is the “dovetail technique”?

A

Hammering in the nails at an angle to provide more strength in the joint.

How to join materials with a knock-down joint?

A
  1. Another piece of wood, metal or plastic is put in between to pieces of wood at a 90 degree angle.
  2. Using screws or nails, holds together the pieces of wood.
