Q

List the structural and functional organizations of anatomy

A

Chemical level= interaction of atoms
i.e., ions + proteins are needed for electrical
signals

Cell level = structural and functional unit of living organisms
I.e., smooth muscle

Tissue level = group of similar cells and the materials surrounding them
I.e., 4 classes of tissue - nervous, muscle, epithelial, connective tissue

Organ level = 2 or more tissues functioning together
I.e., bladder = 3 tissues

Organ system level = groups of organs functioning together
I.e., nervous system

Organism level = any living thing

Q

Label the body positions

A

Anatomical position = body erect, face forward, feet together, palms forward

Q

Depict the body planes

A

Sagital = vertically through the body - separates right and left

Frontal (coronal) = divides body into anterior and posterior sections

Transverse = divides the body into superior and inferior sections

Oblique = other than at a right angle

Q

Describe the planes through an organ

A

Longitudinal - cut along the length of an organ

Cross/ transverse - out at a right angle to length of the organ

Oblique - cut at any but a right angle

Q

What is the purpose of serous membranes

A
  • Cover the orgas of trunk cavities and lines the cavity
  • visceral serous membranes = inner membrane
  • parietal serous membranes = outer

cavity between the membranes filled with lubricanting serous fluid produced by membranes
- pericardium, pleura, peritoneum
