Q
What is chyle?
A
Chyle is a fluid absorbed by the lacteals, i.e., the lymphatic capillaries in the small intestines. Chyle contains interstitial fluid from local arterial capillaries, chylomicrons formed of triglycerides from recent meals, lymphocytes, immunoglobulins, and fat soluble vitamins from the intestines. After a fatty meal, the high concentration of chylomicrons makes chyle thick and milky. Chyle is bacteriostatic.
