Terminology Flashcards
(24 cards)
Slow movement
Bradykinesia
Disorder or disease of the spinal cord
Myelopathy
Pain in the distribution of a nerve or nerves
Neuralgia
A disturbance of function or pathological change in a nerve
Neuropathy
____ is a special case o neuropathy and is reserved for inflammatory processes affecting nerves
Neuritis
Acute nerve compression (e.g. Saturday night palsy)
Neurapraxia
Damage to individual axons, but not the endoneurium, perineurium, or epineurium
Axonotmesis
Section of a nerve (nerve is sliced completely)
Neuronotmesis/neurotmesis
Any pathological condition of the nerve roots; pain referral is in the distribution of the affected nerve root(s)
Radiculopathy
Sensation of restlessness (Parkinson’s)
Akathisia
Unpleasant abnormal sensation of touch
Dysesthesia
Difficulty swallowing
Dysphagia
Difficulty with speech (Broca’s/Wernicke’s)
Aphasia
Loss of coordination of voluntary movements
Ataxia
Double vision
Diplopia
Visible/palpable muscle twitch (Seen in LMN lesions)
Fasciculations
Rippling movements seen under skin (slower than fasciculations-due to improper LMN control)
Myokymia
Continuous, intermittent contraction of many muscles (makes a body part turn eventually in a fixed way)
Dystonia
Involuntary writhing movements of limbs, neck and tongue
Athetosis
Jerky, abnormal, involuntary movement of limb or facial muscles
Chorea
Difficulty articulating words
Dysarthria
Difficulty performing rapid alternating movements
Dysdiadochokinesia
Difficulty controlling range/force of movement
Dysmetria
Uncoordinated abrupt movements from poor muscle coordination
Dyssynergia
