Abstinence
To hold back or restrain. For example, to refrain from the use of drugs or alcohol
bacteriuria
The presence of bacteria in the urine.
calciferol
Vitamin D.
dandruff
Little scales or flakes of dead skin on the scalp. Also called seborrheic dermatitis.
eclampsia
An attack of convulsions. Particularly used to describe toxemia (toxins in the blood) of pregnancy.
familial cholesterolemia
An inherited disorder causing abnormally high levels of cholesterol in the blood.
gall
The bile produced in the liver and stored in the gallbladder.
hammer
The malleus, a hammer-shaped bone in the middle ear.
idiopathic
Without a known cause.
joint
The joining of two or more bones. In general, joints allow flexibility and mobility.
keratin
The main protein of skin, hair and nails.
laceration
A wound caused by a cut from a sharp instrument or the tearing of body tissue.
macule
A discolored, flat spot of skin.
nebulizer
A device that produces a very fine vapor to be inhaled.
obstetrics
The branch of medicine that deals with the care and treatment of women during pregnancy and childbirth.
palliative
Controlling symptoms without curing the disease.
radiculopathy
A disease or other problem affecting a nerve root.
sacroiliac
Having to do with the joint formed by the sacrum and the ilium in the lower back.
talus
A bone of the ankle.
ulna
The larger of the two bones of the forearm.
vascular
Of or having vessels, particularly the blood vessels.
whiplash
An injury of the neck or spine due to a sudden, severe bending of the neck.
