General Medical Evaluation
GME
- required under state-federal program in determining eligibility
- clarify functional implications, potential for recovery, services needed to achieve goals, existing limitations
- counselor should provide referral info to aid the psysician in assessing functioning
Medical Specialist Examination
- Specialists are used for complex disability conditions or those that require training
- Using a physiatrist (specializes in disabilities) or psychiatrist
Medical Consultant
- Consultants are available in the state-federal program to aid in understanding medical and psychological reports
- Primary responsibility for integrating medical/pay report information lies with rehab counselor
Use of Vocational Evaluation
- Recommendation for clients with limited work history or unclear vocational strengths, limitations, and goals
- Also helpful in “trying out” different work accommodations
