Q

What happens during interphase?

A

Interphase is the stage that the cell is not dividing. At this stage the cell is getting ready for mitosis to occur.
- DNA replication occurs

Q

What happens during metaphase?

A
  • Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell.

- Spindle fibres attach to the centromere of the chromosome.

6
Q

What happens during anaphase?

A
  • Chromosomes are pulled apart by spindle fibres.

- They are moved to opposite ends of the cell.

Q

What is G1 phase?

A

First growth phase; during this phase cell produces new proteins. The phase ends when cell’s DNA starts to duplicate.

A

Eggs are produced.

18
Q

What is ovulation?

A

The release of an egg.

19
Q

What is ZEF

A

Z- zygote
E- Embryo
F- Foetus

20
Q

Where is sperm produced from?

A

Sperm is produced from the testes.

21
Q

What is the skin - covered pouch called covering the testes?

22
Q

What does the urethra carry?

A

Urine and sperm.

23
Q

Why does erectile tissue have sponge-like spaces?

A

Blood fills these spaces when the male is sexually aroused.

24
Q

What does the uterus do?

A

Is a single hollow organ.

25
What do the two seminal vesicles do?
Secrete fluid that makes 60% of the semen.
26
What does the prostate gland do?
Secretes a fluid which is part of the semen.
27
What does the bulbo-urethral glands do?
Two glands secrete clear mucus just before ejaculation occurs.
28
What does the scrotum do?
A skin-covered pouch that holds the testes.
29
What do the testes do?
Primary male reproductive system, they produce sperm.
30
What does the epididymis do?
Sperm are stored and matured.
31
What does the erectile tissue do?
Has spongy-like spaces that is filled with blood and causes the penis to become erect.
32
What does the urethra do?
It carries either urine or semen out of the body?
33
What does the vas deferens do?
(the sperm duct) carries sperm away from testes to urethra.
34
What does the uterus do? (female)
A hollow organ lined with the endometrium.
35
What does the cervix do?
(Neck of the uterus) protrudes into the vagina/where semen is deposited.
36
What does the vagina do?
Receives the penis during intercourse. Birth canal.
37
What is the labia?
Fleshy folds of skin that surround the vaginal opening.
38
What is the clitoris?
Sensitive to touch and when stimulated becomes erect.
39
What does the ovary do?
The two ovaries produce and release eggs.
40
What does the uterine tube do?
(also known as oviducts/fallopian tubes) They carry eggs down into the uterus. Fertilisation occurs within them.
