Define

Torsion (twisting) of the spermatic cord

Pathophysiology

Occlusion of testicular blood vessels

Aetiology and RF

Trauma
RF: High insertion of the tunica vaginalis

Epidemiology

1/4000 males under 25

Clinical presentation

Acute swelling of the scrotum
Sudden severe pain in one of testis
Often follows sport of physical activity

Diagnostic tests

Examination is often most sufficient

Treatment

Verify by doppler ultrasound
Reduce mainly (twist back)

Complications

Infarction of the affected testicle followed by atrophy
