What colour precipitate does a copper (II) cation create
Blue-green
What colour precipitate does an iron (III) cation create
Brown
What colour flame does a sodium cation create
Yellow
What colour flame does a Calcium cation create
Orange-red
What colour precipitate does an Aluminium cation create
White
How to distinguish between calcium and aluminium
Add sodium hydroxide and the aluminium will turn colourless
How to test for an ammonium ion
Put ammonia in a test tube and heat it over a bunson burner and place a piece of damp red litmus paper and it will turn blue in the presence of ammonia
Test for carbonate
Add acid then put into limewater and it will fizz and turn the limewater cloudy
Test for sulphate
Add HCL and Barium chloride and a white precipitate will form
Test for halide (halogens group 7)
Add nitric acid and silver nitrate and for Cl-white precipitate Br-Cream precipitate Iodine-yellow precipitate
